February Half Term

Spaces are available for our February activities.

Tuesday 19th February, Animal Encounters in the York Room of Ilford Central Library in Clements Road, 11.30am – 1pm. A variety of animals and birds for you to stroke or hold. Lots of information and advice if you are thinking of getting a pet.

Wednesday 20th February, Pony Riding Special! A three part activity including pony riding, grooming and a talk on care of the ponies. Lunch will be provided and there is a small charge of £3 per rider. (riders must weigh less than 12 stone and be over 5 years of age.

Thursday 21st February, Honey Bee session, 12.30-1.30pm at the Redbridge Forum Office. We will be looking into a simulated hive (no live bees) and learning all about how the bees make their honey and wax. There are lots of activities including making your own mini hive and making candles. There will be lots for you to take home and as always with our Busy Bees session prizes to win!

AGM reminder

Salary Scale £ 10.00 per hour.

Responsible to Project Manager

Responsible for To support the service user engagement of a Heritage Lottery Funded project to look at the history and achievements of Redbridge Forum.
To work supportively within the staff and volunteer team.
To ensure service users with disabilities are able to fully participate in the project.

Base The administration of the project will operate from our office in Ilford Lane. Activities will take place at a number of sites in London Borough Redbridge.

Key Tasks
• To work with safeguarding at the forefront of their mind.
• To be able to use alternative communication aids to communicate with different
people.
• To support disabled people of all ages to work within the project taking in to account their individual needs.
• To be a proactive member of the team throughout the running of sessions, be aware of risk assessments and ensure Health and Safety rules are adhered to at all venues
• To support the organisation of the activities, including monitoring and keeping of statistics and records.
• Work within the policies and procedures of Redbridge Forum.
• To support the training of volunteers.
• To be able to communicate in a positive and professional manner with disabled
people, their families and professionals.
• To be able to work positively both within a team and independently.
• To be willing to attend all training.
• To undertake other duties as requested by the Project Manager and which are commensurate with the post.
• To attend Redbridge Forum staff meetings and training events when deemed appropriate by the Senior Manager.

What’s Coming Up?

You should have all received your invites to our AGM, this Wednesday at our office in Ilford Lane, Please enter by the rear entrance in Fern Way. We will start promptly at 7pm and look to have the business finished by 7.15. Then as normal there will be time for refreshments and chat. If you are a new member this is a good opportunity to meet the team and find out what we have to offer.

Thursday 15th March, 10am. Come and join our Allotment group for our first planting session of the year, we have our potatoes and just need to get them in the ground. The allotment site is at Thornton Road or if you would prefer to meet us at the office just give us a call and we will organise that.

Tuesday 20th March, Is the Learning Disability Partnership Board meeting where the agenda will include a report from the Day Opportunities consultation and the next steps and also a report from the Charging consultation and the next steps. If you have any burning issues you think need to be raised on these issues please do not hesitate to contact Chris before the 20th.

Thursday 22nd March, 7pm. Our parents support group are meeting at the Pie Factory, contact the office and let Tahira know if you would like to go along.

Wednesday 28th March 10am. Meet at the Forum Office to learn/practice your crochet skills with other parent carers. We have spare hooks and yarn if you are a newbie to crochet. It is a small friendly group.

Then its the school holidays but that’s a whole new post. Booking has started but there are still some places left so contact us if you have not already.

Assist – Skills Sharing Session

Soap Making
On Thursday 13th October we will be holding a skills sharing session at our office in Ilford Lane.
10.30am to 1.00pm, Light lunch will be provided and there is no cost.
The session will show you how to make your own soap from scratch. Choosing colours, designs and fragrance. You may even wish to make some as a present for Christmas!

Anxiety and Stress management Training

As a part of our ‘Assist’ project, Redbridge Forum is organising a course on ‘Anxiety and Stress management’.

This course is suitable for carers who would like to learn how to manage stress levels. It is ideal for anyone that wants to learn some simple coping mechanisms that help you feel positive more of the time. This can have a beneficial effect on your mental wellbeing.

Date: 14th and 15th September 2016
Time: 10.00-1.30pm
Cost: £2.50
